My Family’s Favorite Homemade Juicing Recipes

Every now and then I get an itch to try something new. If you ask my husband he would probably say that happens almost constantly. To my credit, it is usually something that I feel would be beneficial to our family in some way. One of my latest obsessions is with juicing.

What type of juicer is best?

I think one day I must have scrolled across a video on Instagram of someone juicing and I was mesmerized. It looked delicious and healthy so for me it was a no-brainer. I started to do a little research on the type of juicer and method of juicing that I wanted to try. After a few hours, I decided that we would get a masticating juicer. So many articles mentioned that masticating juicers produce more juice, that is more flavorful and nutrient dense. The other option would be a centrifugal juicer which tends to juice more quickly and is easier to use and store because it typically has less pieces. In my mind, I was already a serious juicer so I felt like the masticating juicer would give me the intensity that I desired.

Once I started looking around online for masticating or cold press juicers, I quickly determined that my desire to feel like a professional juicer did not align with my budget. I also know how I can pick up a hobby and drop it rather quickly so I didn’t want to spend too much on this at the start. I found a masticating juicer on Amazon that had pretty good reviews and that was in the perfect price range for my introduction to juicing.

Our Tried and True Juice Recipes

After a few weeks of use I can say that I do love this juicer. I haven’t had it long enough to say if it is a true workhorse, but so far so good! I try to make multiple juices on one day to last us throughout the week. Here are a few of our favorite recipes so far:

I make multiple recipes from this website. Our favorite juice of all right now is the Ginger Zinger. I have even convinced my parents to try it and they love it! That’s a big deal because this type of stuff is not something they are in to. I also make the Antioxidant Blast and Kale Kickstarter Juice from this website.

We like the Refreshing Celery and Cucumber recipe from this website. The celery is definitely the boss of this recipe but the other ingredients (apples, lemon, and cucumbers) do help to tame it a little bit.

And because I am now a professional juicer, I had to purchase glass bottles to complete the “look”. You seriously cannot tell me that I do not have a juice shop at this point.

Juicing = Family Time

I love that juicing is totally a family activity. I knew the boys would love to participate but my husband is also super into it. We now go to our local farmer’s market every Saturday morning to grab our produce for the week. The quality of the fruits and veggies compared to the cost cannot be beat. I recently had to make an extra bottle of the Ginger Zinger midweek for my parents and had to grab the ingredients from the grocery store and I was not impressed. Of course, if the local grocery store is your best option then absolutely go for it, but if you have access to a local farmer’s market I would go there instead. It feels great to support local farmers when we can and to check out all of the global food options that they have as well. We also love interacting with the people who work there who are from all over the world. My husband even gets to practice a little Amharic from time to time. Can you tell that I love the farmer’s market? Maybe I should become a farmer’s market advocate… does something like that even exist?
