For the past year, my middle son has been asking for a room refresh. I never knew that preschool aged kids could be so opinionated about their room design! He let me know that he was now a scientist and would like his bedroom to be turned into a science lab. I am not a fan of the cheesy over the top themed rooms, but this idea was definitely intriguing to me! When the Home Depot approached me with the opportunity to partner with them and PPG paints I knew this was the perfect time to transform his superhero themed bedroom into the science lab bedroom of his dreams!

After talking to my client for a few days, I was able to come up with a loose rendering that he was pleased with. There were several requirements on his list, but the most important ones included a lab table, telescope, and shelves for all of his gadgets. This little guy also has some hoarding tendencies so I wanted to create a space for him to display the things most important to him and encourage him to toss the things that are not.

Before we got started, I decided to check out all of the paint colors that PPG offers. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of choices and was able to quickly identify two colors I loved, Onyx and Improbable! Now, I do not anticipate any “real” experiments going on in this room, but in the event they do, these walls will be able to handle the mess! The PPG Timeless’ new formulation makes the walls super washable and wear resistant. I decided to paint the wood planked wall in the Onyx color and to do an additional little accent wall behind his shelves in the Improbable color.

This project was so much fun! Partially because it was so exciting to see my little guy’s eyes light up with every change we made. But also because it was so easy to paint these walls! We literally painted the entire room, even the dark blue walls over the course of 24 hours!

One of my favorite aspects of this room is the circle accent wall with shelves for his little gadgets and lego creations. I was so nervous about painting this circle, but with a little tape and quality paint it turned out so well! I decided to paint the shelves the same color as the circle and I love how they blend in just perfectly, allowing his gadgets to take center stage! He also painted each of those pictures in the frames and I think they turned out so well and look so good! While he was painting these, he told me that we should now call him a scientist-artist.

We were able to paint on multiple surface types with the PPG Timeless paint with ease. From the planked walls, drywall, to the wooden shelves the paint went on super smooth and effortlessly. My husband also built the lab table and we used the PPG Timeless paint for that as well! I love how multifaceted this paint is, it made everything so easy!

Overall, we are all so pleased with how this space turned out. My little guy is beyond thrilled with everything and his brothers are eagerly awaiting a brothers sleepover night in his new science lab bedroom! The PPG Timeless paint made this project an absolute joy! We love the paint colors, quality, and how quick and easy it was to paint this room!
Pretty! This was an extremely wonderful article. Many thanks for supplying these details. Tawsha Any Tyson
